The story
After the previous day's big outing, and with bodies worn down by the Aiguilles du Diable traverse, we make the most of being in the area to climb the Dent du Géant by its North ridge. On the programme: climbing on superb granite in a very wild setting, in comfortable but, above all, rather worrying conditions (freezing level measured at 5136 m, a record for June, and not far off the all-time record set in 2023...).
We string together the 8 pitches in a great frame of mind, without any scares, and with the pleasure of free-climbing everything in big boots. A myriad of crystal pockets line our route and add to our wonder.
We reach the summit of the Dent du Géant, guarded by the Madonna who has watched over the Aosta Valley since 1904! Her pierced skull bears witness to the countless times lightning has struck her head, while her serene face holds all the emotions of the thousands of climbers who have climbed this summit, so dear to Italian hearts.
Today she will have had the pleasure of seeing a particularly happy rope team, full of gratitude for this magnificent weekend!
