Summit 82 / 82 · the last

Weissmies

4011 m · Climbed on 3 August 2026

One summit was left. Just one. I had saved it for last, to share one final great adventure all together — a big crew in the best of spirits for the ascent that would bring the Quête des 4000 to a close.

Over five years I had climbed eighty-one summits on this list, pushing my limits, with punishing schedules, in difficult conditions, many times entirely solo. The Weissmies I wanted to climb surrounded by the people I love, and to make it a joyful celebration: the shared high point of this long quest so full of emotion.

Reunion

Bringing my faithful climbing partners together with friends and family new to the mountains.

Togetherness

Making this summit a moment that brings everyone together, with no difficulty or exposure, and being happy to be up there all together.

Closing in style

Closing five years of the quest unhurriedly, fully aware of everything that came before to get here.

The story

Five years of effort, moments of euphoria and of doubt.

A masterful finale, in the company of some thirty friends and loved ones who came up to the hut for the occasion. A convivial, unifying moment, with people from all walks of life, aged 4 to 75, from complete beginners to the most seasoned mountaineers!

A grandiose ascent with a group of 25 climbers who set off in the dead of night to climb the Weissmies by its SE ridge and all meet up together on the summit. For 6 of them, it was their very first 4000er.

A huge thank you to all my loved ones and rope partners, and a very special, heartfelt thank you to a few people in particular:

- Alexandre for all these years of friendship and the many summits climbed together; - Anthony for climbing, just the two of us, the most complex and committing summits on this list; - my parents for coming all the way from Belgium to be there, and Mum for the effort that the climb to the hut represented; - Valentin for the magnificent mountain Mass that crowned this exceptional moment, celebrated facing the Täschhorn and the Dom and dedicated especially to the memory of Patrick Berhault; - and Patrick (“le Gab'” this time) for coming and for changing all your plans to be there at this moment and show your friendship.

Very happy and proud today to be the second Belgian to have climbed all the summits over 4000 metres in the Alps, and the first to do so fully independently and without a guide.

This Quête des 4000, so important to me throughout these last years, is now accomplished. Thank you to the camptocamp community for the invaluable support provided by all the route descriptions and trip reports of the climbers who went before me.

To all of you who have browsed this site, this summit journal, I now wish you much happiness and fulfilment in all your personal quests, and may you find in the mountains what you come looking for.
