Discovering the Combins with Valentin!

After our superb shared adventure at the Patrouille des Glaciers, raced together with his brother Simon a few weeks earlier, Valentin suggested linking the 3 Combins in a day, starting from the valley.

To begin with, you had to be ready to leave early, to suffer a bit, and to stay clear-headed through a day that promised to be particularly long. But to add to the intensity of the outing, the conditions turned out to be far more gruelling than expected: rock-hard snow all the way, which kept us from putting our skis on until... the summit (!), and a relentless wind from the Col des Maisons Blanches onwards wore us out completely.

After a good break on the summit of the Combin de Valsorey, it seems wiser to me to go down while conditions aren't getting any worse... Valentin is somewhat disappointed, and I'm very sorry not to share his enthusiasm for carrying on to the 2 neighbouring summits, so close by, but a little voice inside me makes itself heard and tells me not to tempt fate.

Thank you, Valentin, for this brilliant idea and this unforgettable day, which combined snow climbing, ice pitches and a spectacular ski descent to end the season in style!
